Thai Bodywork is practiced with the client wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Thai Bodywork incorporates stretching, compression, acupressure, energy work, and can be done on the floor or table. Founded by the Buddha’s personal physician, this dynamic form of bodywork has been used for over 2,500 years to maintain health and vitality.

Linda & Thai Yoga Therapy

Linda is one of the first practitioners on the Western slopes of Colorado to practice and promote the amazing, healing arts of Thai Massage and Thai Herbal Compresses. She has had training in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and her practice and teaching draws from the Northern style as well as training through instructors from SD Richard Gold, Lotus Palm in Canada, Janice Vitavec in Northern CA and Hillary Hillard in Denver CO. Acupressure work studied with Noam Tyroler from Israel and Rose Griscom from New Jersey. When it Chiang Mai, Thailand, she studied at Classic Touch Nerve Touch Massage with Lek Chaiya “Mama Lak”. What an amazing beautiful experience as it was a one-on-one training, learning bodywork to assist during and after pregnancy. Linda has also studied Advanced Nerve Touch with her son Jack in a one-on-one life time experience. She also studied at Sunshine Massage school, Assessment and Treatment of Movement Dysfunction with Thai Massage. A wonderful integration of Thai bodywork and working as a Personal Trainer, Linda’s style is more therapeutic, “feminine”, (Motherly). Most styles of Thai bodywork teach only one routine that becomes quite robotic over time. Her style allows for creativity and intuition along with the techniques learned to further help and heal the client through many different styles.  Linda is one of ten high level thai therapists in Colorado.  She has studied intensely in Thailand twice, and will be returning for a third time in 2016.

Within the Thai bodywork/massage community (nationally and globally) there are two approaches: one more masculine and one more feminine. The masculine approach tends to have a colder, almost distant feeling-the style is a bit “harder” in that it doesn’t allow for variance of technique pressure-or changes that need to be made from client to client. This is the “old school” style where the therapist is in more control, as opposed to my style which is a more feminine style-a partnership, more nurturing, a loving motherly approach,more intuitive-not always following the same routine but allowing for therapeutic changes. Linda has trained with women in Thai bodywork that are on the forefront of this approach, and then she has weaved in her own style and sense of nurturance, to make the massage a partnership-not just the therapist making change in the client-but making change together. The breath is a part of the style-energy has to move somewhere-if we don’t allow the breath to flow freely-and to release-then we’re not able to really allow stagnation to release. Breath is our power a way to detox. Breath is power our essence. Coming from a yoga background this is utilized throughout the session. Also Linda’s background as a Social worker she believes affirmation and cognitive restructuring releases old tapes allowing mental, emotional and physical healing. This is weaved in the session as needed.  I also incorporate “Luk Pra Kob”, Thai Herbal Compress therapy, throughout my sessions. The hot compresses are used throughout the session, and especially before going deeper into an area so that the muscles and the nervous system have time to calm and relax to allow for deeper pressure.

About Thai Bodywork

Thai Bodywork (also called, ‘Thai Yoga Massage’ and ‘Nuad Phaen Boran’) is a compassionate healing approach to wellness that amazingly fuses different techniques and modalities into its own interactive and highly unique style. “Metta” meaning “Loving Kindness” is used throughout the bodywork. This brings an intention by the practitioner to the client that allows a unique energy consciousness. The sen lines are focused in Thai bodywork. Similar to meridian lines work in Chinese healing forms. Other techniques used include: reflexology, acupressure, passive stretching, PNF, AIS, energy work, meditation, and aromatherapy. It also focuses more on the spaces between the muscles’ the fascial layers, connective tissues. This ‘Lazy Man’s Yoga’ is very therapeutic for opening and transforming the body, mind, and spirit into a place of relaxation and peace.

Thai Massage is delivered on a futon-like mat on the floor, or table, and the receiver is fully clothed during the whole massage. I provide Thai clothing ‘Thai Fisherman Pants’ and tops for the receiver to wear during the session, if needed.

My sessions include the use of ‘Luk Pra Kob’, Thai herbal compress treatments. These medicinal herbal packs include many different herbs and flowers, which are grown and dried in Thailand. They are wrapped in fabric, steamed, and then pressed along the receiver’s body throughout the massage. The herbal compresses I use are very special and have been hand-made by an herbalist in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The receiver leaves feeling refreshed and rejuvenated from the warmed, herbal remedies.

Thai Yoga Bodywork sessions can be 60 minutes but a typically 90 to 120 minutes allows for a full body session.

History of Thai Yoga Massage

Thai Yoga Massage has it’s roots in Ayurveda and Buddhist spiritual practices. Dating back 2,500 years, folk legend attributes the founding of this healing art to an Indian doctor named Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, personal physician to the Buddha. These teachings traveled through Asia with Buddhism, arriving in Thailand, where it has been practiced ever since. Thai Massage is ancient bodywork from Thailand that is an interactive and unique massage modality developed over many centuries in Thai medical hospitals and temples by leading healing professionals. With extensive roots in Indian healing arts (Ayurveda and Yoga), Thai Massage uniquely combines the best in Asian techniques and offers a preventative approach to health.

Pregnancy Support

Prenatal & Postnatal

Loving kindness bodywork supports a pregnant body around pillows to support a seated position. Side lying work for pregnancy is ideal. I also use warm compresses to allow for deeper relaxation and nurturing during this beautiful time.

Just like with yoga asana practice, incorporating deep mindful breathing into your Thai Yoga Massage session will powerfully enhance your experience. Breath awareness encourages deeper relaxation of body and mind, and strengthens the effects of Thai Yoga Massage.
